Course Overview:
The Emergency First Aid Course offered by St. John Ambulance Jamaica is designed to equip participants with essential first aid skills needed to handle medical emergencies in various settings, including the workplace, home, or public spaces. This course is ideal for individuals seeking foundational first aid knowledge to respond to emergencies effectively.
Participants will gain:
· The ability to recognize situations requiring first aid.
· Confidence to administer basic first aid in emergency situations.
· Knowledge of when to seek professional medical assistance.
Course Duration:
· Total Course Time: 8 hours (1 day)
· Instructional Time: 6.5 hours
· Break Time: 1 hour (30 minutes for lunch, two 15-minute breaks)
· Evaluation Time: 30 minutes (Knowledge-Based Evaluation)
Course Objectives:
By the end of the course, participants will:
· Understand their role and responsibilities as an emergency first aider.
· Be able to manage common injuries and medical conditions encountered in emergency situations.
· Confidently administer CPR and manage choking incidents.
· Recognize signs of serious medical conditions and apply appropriate first aid.
· Know when and how to request further medical assistance.
Course Content:
The Emergency First Aid course is designed in a modular format, allowing flexible delivery while ensuring participants receive essential knowledge and skills.

2. Emergency Scene Management
3. Adult Resuscitation (CPR)
4. Child and Infant Resuscitation (CPR)
5. Wound Care and Bleeding Control
6. Burns
7. Choking Management (Adult / child / Infant)
8. Medical Conditions (Introduction)
9. Mental Health Awareness (Introduction)
10. Bone and Joint Injuries (introduction)
11. Lifting and Moving (introduction)
Scheduling:
The Emergency First Aid Course fits into one full working day (8 hours). Of this time, 6.5 hours are dedicated to instruction and practical exercises, with the final 30 minutes allocated for the written evaluation.

The course will be delivered through a combination of theoretical learning and hands-on practice:
Evaluation:
Class Size: The course allows for a class size of 20 students to 1 Instructor per session.
Certification: Upon successful completion, participants will receive a St. John Ambulance Workplace First Aid Certificate, valid for 3 years.
Course Requirements: Participants are required to present a valid photo ID for registration. The classroom must have enough space for all students to engage in practical exercises, with access to audio-visual aids for the presentation of course materials.
